A Cuban migrant residing in the United States has been arrested by federal authorities after allegedly concealing his past affiliations with the Cuban Communist Party and the island’s internal security apparatus. The arrest underscores rising scrutiny of regime-linked individuals entering the U.S. amid growing concerns about community safety and potential subversion.

The accused, Daniel Morejón García, stands charged with making false statements during his immigration process, specifically failing to disclose his membership in the Communist Party of Cuba and his prior work as an operative for Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior, according to U.S. authorities. The arrest followed a joint investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Morejón García’s name appears on the “Represores Cubanos” list — a database curated by the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba which identifies alleged perpetrators of crimes against humanity on behalf of the Cuban regime. According to the foundation, he is accused of violently repressing demonstrators during the July 11, 2021 protests.

Prior to his arrival in the United States, Morejón García held various roles within Cuban state institutions, reportedly serving as a director and collaborator for State Security, and participating in operations with both the Rapid Response Brigades and the National Defense Council in Artemisa — entities frequently mobilized to suppress civil dissent, according to reports.

Authorities have signaled that this arrest is part of a broader effort to identify and remove individuals implicated in acts of repression, whose presence in the U.S. may pose security risks or cause distress among exile communities. The case reignites longstanding fears among Cuban-Americans that agents of the state may be operating within diaspora communities under false pretenses.

As the investigation continues, federal officials have reaffirmed their commitment to holding accountable those who, under the guise of asylum or immigration, conceal their participation in systemic oppression.
